Join us for our fully inclusive coach trip to Waterperry Gardens Oxfordshire including a cream tea leaving Banstead Community Hall at 9.30am and returning by 5.30pm.
Originally home to a renowned horticultural college between 1932 and 1971, the emphasis was on food production rather than ornamental gardens but over the past twenty years the gardens have developed and grown, and many new projects have been undertaken and completed. The gardens now occupy twenty acres and you will find a formal garden, the Mary Rose Garden, a waterlily canal, an alpine garden, a rock garden, the long colour border, the recently planted arboretum in the meadow area and a riverside walk.
In addition to the garden shop and plant centre there is also a church with a history dating back to anglo-saxon times, a gallery exhibiting a wide range of ceramics, glass, jewellery, wood, paintings from British artists and a collection of ancient tools in Waterperry’s Museum of Rural Life.
Most of the paths at Waterperry are accessible to visitors in wheelchairs which are available on site. All of the buildings are easily accessible for wheelchair users and others with limited mobility. The ornamental gardens are mainly flat and most paths are wide enough for wheelchairs. Most paths are gravel-surfaced but this is well compacted, and should not cause too many problems, although some areas may be more difficult at certain times of the year.
