The Friends meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month between October and March at 9.30am until 1200pm. It's a small group but we’d love to welcome folk who like working outdoors.

Want to join us? Have a question or want to get in touch? We'd love to hear from you. Contact us today and we'll get back to you ASAP.

Friends of Banstead wildlife field

It's time to come together with like-minded individuals and groups who enjoy this little oasis on the edge of Banstead.  Anthea and I have made a small start but wish to welcome others who are willing to share their time and skills and enjoy the rewards of working in the field.

We used a crocus planting as an opportunity to launch  ‘The Friends of Banstead Wildlife Field’ and to establish a healthy rhythm of maintenance and conservation for the future.

We had a plan of action for Autumn  2024 which is outlined below.

In general the Friends group will be a voluntary organisation which will

  •  advocate for essential maintenance routines from the council
  •  fundraise/commission restoration work (eg the dilapidated raised bed)
  •  build on offers of support from local voluntary organisations
  • engage young people in the natural world
  • encourage use by educational organisations, offer educational research opportunities and support their with wildlife projects e.g. surveys of the site
  • improve the range of meadow plants to increase the diversity of pollinating insects.

We will update this page with a range of opportunities for supporting the work indoors and out.  Everyone is welcome. If you haven’t done this before, come and learn. If you have then we would love you to inspire others, or just quietly enjoy doing what you love.

Planned action for AUTUMN 2024
