Join us for our fully inclusive coach trip to the RHS Garden Hyde Hall in Essex leaving Banstead Community Hall at 9.30am and returning by 5.30pm.
Hyde Hall is a mix of traditional and modern styles. Highlights include the Dry Garden with its fantastic range of 400 drought resistant plants that thrive in regions of very low rainfall. The Australia and New Zealand Garden contains unusual shrubs and perennials native to Australasia. In the 2017 Global Growth Vegetable Garden you can see traditional varieties being grown alongside rare edible plants including yacon, yam and tiger nuts. There are also courtyard gardens including a modern country garden as well as a classic more-relaxed style cottage garden
The winter garden that opened in 2018 is filled with trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants and bulbs that peak in interest in the coldest months. The rose garden features a collection of hybrid tea and floribunda roses whilst the shrub rose border comprises both old-fashioned and modern shrub and species roses. The Queen Mother’s Garden has a long season of interest with a blend of foliage and flowering perennials whilst the herbaceous border contains a mix of woody and herbaceous perennials, trees and shrubs in colour-themed bays enclosed by scalloped yew hedges.
The Birch Grove features five species of birch from Asia and North America and the recent addition of winding woodland paths allows visitors to meander through the trees and enjoy the planting.
There’s lots more to see including the 2015 Sky Meadow which uses seed mixes associated with species found in the prairies and the steppes, Clover Hill and Lake and the Robinson Garden which is filled with plants ranging from shade-loving bog plants to drought tolerant species. There’s also a reservoir and bird hide so bring your binoculars!
